Course Description
Who doesn’t need a cosy and soft hoodie for all those casual moments in life? This is a great two lesson course, suitable for male & female students. Choose from hoodie without or with front zip (you would be expected to know how to attach zip for the second option and have more advanced sewing skills). You will be taught how to choose the perfect knit fabric and learn to work with necklines, sleeves, pockets, cuffs, bands as well as master control on your overlocker and sewing machine stretchy stitches. You will get to grips with great new techniques and become a fearless knit expert.
Is this course right for me?
This more advanced sewing course is designed for those who know their way around a sewing machine and are ready to stretch their skills and start working with knits. You need to be able to confidently use a sewing machine, have already used few commercial patterns and be familiar with stretchy fabrics. Ideally, you would have already completed our Sew Capable (intermediate), Fancy knickers & Batwing top sewing courses..
Session 1
The first half of the session you will spend taking measurements, tracing a pattern for your hoodie, lay, mark and pin pattern to fabric. The class will progress with testing your stitches and work on your pockets, sleeves & side seams. Please bring along the following materials:
- Hoodie fabric - size 8-16
- - Either 2.0m (200cm) of 140cm wide mid-stretch jersey, ponte roma, scuba, soft fleece, double knit, medium-heavy weight jersey, French terry.
- - open end zip 60cm (for more advanced level)
- - Matching thread
- Alternative you can buy materials & fabric from us for £20 on arrival, all zips are £3.
Session 2
During this session you will build on the work and skills covers in the last session. You will spend time putting together and completing your hoodie & insert zips, pockets, cuffs and walk away with a cosy brand-new hoodie by the end of the class.
Just to sew things up...
All sewing machines, and equipment are provided, although if you would like to bring your own sewing machine to learn on, you are welcome to.
Refreshments and biscuits are included and a glass of wine for all evening classes to help create a seamless atmosphere.
